CAD-to-part dimensional comparison
A color map locates surface deviations. Conformity decisions also require the correct nominal model, alignment references, tolerances and a measurement method suitable for the requirement.
Information for the review
- Current nominal CAD revision and drawing with units and critical dimensions.
- Datums or alignment references and applicable tolerances.
- Material, finish, dimensions and accessible areas.
- Sample quantity and the decision the report must support.
Agree on the inspection scope
- Select characteristics and acceptance criteria.
- Review access, fixturing and surface preparation.
- Choose capture and alignment for the required comparison.
- Document results, unevaluated areas and method limitations.
Limits of a dimensional report
Colors depend on scale and alignment. A best-fit alignment does not automatically replace datum-based alignment. Measurement uncertainty must be appropriate for the tolerance.
A dimensional report does not certify a quality system or imply accredited measurement. Accreditation scope and documentation must be confirmed when required by a contract.
